This is a research trip and cross-cultural artistic exchange program undertaken by Wren Miller, UK artist, and Marlies Morsink, Dutch-American explorer, in August and September 2010. The aim of the trip is to visit sites in California, Arizona, and New Mexico where a certain kind of art ('earth art', for want of a better label) is being or has been produced, understand the influence of the land on the art / artist, meet the artists where possible, and share ideas / make art together.

Small is Beautiful
Wren is keen to hire a small car for this trip, and I'm hoping she won't go to extremes. Certainly, a smaller car is likely to guzzle less gas, and be in keeping with the eco-conscious nature of this journey. Too bad there aren't too many hybrids for rent yet -- my friend who owns one says he gets 600 miles to the gallon. Another friend runs his Jetta on bio-fuel, and is stocking up gallons of re-usable cooking oil in his garage - but I suspect we won't likely be re-fueling at restaurants.
